Abstract:
Weather is the most important part of what draws people to South Florida, especially in winter. Weather is also what sometimes drives people away from South Florida, whether heat and humidity, hurricanes, or floods. Unknown to most of the people here, South Florida has a long history of weather observations, including a Weather Bureau Office or Weather Service office in South Florida continuously since 1871. This talk will review South Florida's long weather observations history, including the history of what is today the National Weather Service from Don Juan Ponce de Leon to today's digital forecasts.
